Approved by the Danish Maritime Authority. This course will provide you with the required, specialized skills on how to navigate a ship safely in polar waters. Based on the requirements in the STCW code.

Relevant for
This course is a requirement for Masters, Chief Mates, and Officers in charge of a navigational watch on board ships operating in polar waters.

It is relevant for mariners on board ships operating in ice infested waters for instance the Bay of Bothnia, Saint Lawrence River and The Great Lakes.

It could also be relevant for anyone interested in how to operate ships in polar waters or ice infested waters. This could include Ship Managers, Technical Superintendents, Technical Staff, Marine Engineers, shore-based personnel; etc.

Admission requirements
The trainee must hold a certificate as Master, Chief Mate, or Officer in charge of a navigation watch qualified in accordance with regulations II/1, II/2 and II/3 of the STCW Convention, respectively or equivalent as determined by the national administration.

Online training
The training is 100 % online, and you can train anywhere, anytime, at your own pace. The course material is presented by our highly qualified Furuno Instructor and Master Mariner in a video format with beautiful visuals, engaging animations and illustrations.

This online training course can be taken at your own pace, with the possibility to enter and exit the course as often as you require.

You have 90 days to complete your training course counting from the day your license key is activated on the platform.

Content

  • Familiarization with available functions and the menu structure.
  • Visual display setup and setting of safety parameters.
  • Route planning and voyage monitoring.
  • Loading and updating charts and licenses.
  • Sensor management and recognition of alarms.
  • Documentation and position verification.

Certificate

The training course includes small tests after each lesson, eliminating the need for a final, conclusive test.

When you have passed all tests, a digital certificate will be generated immediately and issued on the NavSkills™ Online platform.

The certificate expires after 5 years.
