The Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) Convention sets minimum qualification standards for masters, officers and watch personnel on seagoing merchant ships. All seafarers must complete approved maritime training programs, pass required examinations, and obtain relevant certificates of competency. STCW certification must be renewed every five years and includes mandatory refresher training in areas such as safety, security, and medical care.
A Basic Safety Training course typically takes 5-7 days to complete when taken in a classroom setting. This intensive training covers personal survival techniques, fire prevention and firefighting, elementary first aid, and personal safety and social responsibilities. Some institutions offer blended learning options where theoretical components can be completed online, reducing the in-person training time to 3-4 days.
Yes, the theoretical portion of radar navigation training can be completed online through approved e-learning platforms. However, practical simulator training must be conducted at an approved training center. Our online radar courses cover radar theory, plotting techniques, collision avoidance, and ARPA (Automatic Radar Plotting Aid) systems. Upon completion of the online theory, students must attend a 2-3 day practical session at our training facility.
The Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) has two main operator certificates. The General Operator Certificate (GOC) is required for all officers in charge of radio communications and allows operation of all GMDSS equipment. The Restricted Operator Certificate (ROC) is for vessels not required to carry a dedicated radio operator and covers basic GMDSS operations. The GOC course is more comprehensive, typically requiring 5-7 days of training, while the ROC can be completed in 3-4 days.
Yes, all our maritime training courses are approved by relevant maritime authorities and meet international STCW standards. Our training center is audited regularly to ensure compliance with International Maritime Organization (IMO) requirements. Certificates issued upon successful completion are recognized globally and accepted by flag states worldwide. We maintain accreditation with major maritime classification societies and regularly update our curriculum to reflect the latest industry standards.
For online maritime courses, you will need a computer or tablet with a stable internet connection (minimum 5 Mbps recommended), a modern web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge), speakers or headphones for audio content, and a webcam for live sessions and examinations. Some courses may require specific software which will be provided or made available for download. We recommend a minimum screen size of 10 inches for optimal viewing of charts, diagrams, and simulation exercises.
ECDIS certification does not have a mandatory renewal period specified by STCW. However, officers must demonstrate continued proficiency, and many companies require refresher training every 5 years alongside STCW certificate renewals. When transitioning to a different ECDIS system (e.g., from Furuno to JRC), type-specific training is required. We offer both generic ECDIS training and equipment-specific courses for all major manufacturers. Regular updates on software changes and new functionality are also available through our online platform.
Absolutely! We specialize in developing tailored training programs for shipping companies, fleet operators, and maritime organizations. Our custom programs can address specific operational procedures, company policies, vessel types, or equipment. We can deliver training at your location, our facilities, or through a combination of online and offline methods. Contact our corporate training department to discuss your requirements, and we will design a program that meets your operational needs and budget while maintaining full compliance with maritime regulations.
The Maritime Resource Management course focuses on bridge and engine room resource management, leadership, teamwork, and decision-making skills. The curriculum covers situational awareness, communication techniques, stress management, fatigue awareness, and crisis management. Training includes simulator exercises, case studies of maritime accidents, and practical scenarios. This 2-3 day course is essential for officers and is increasingly required by many shipping companies. It combines classroom instruction with hands-on simulation exercises to develop critical non-technical skills.
Our refund policy varies depending on the course type and timing. For online courses, you can receive a full refund if requested within 7 days of enrollment and before completing more than 25% of the course material. For classroom-based courses, full refunds are available if canceled at least 14 days before the course start date. Cancellations made 7-14 days before the start date receive a 50% refund. No refunds are provided for cancellations made less than 7 days before the course or for no-shows.
